Gladstone HotelGladstone Hotel is a 3-star hotel located between Queen Street West and Parkdale. This boutique hotel is one of the oldest continuously operating hotels and also one of the most popular choices in Toronto, bringing together fine hospitality and arts through their unique artist-designed hotel rooms and numerous rotating exhibitions in one of their 3 dedicated galleries. And that’s on top of other happenings and culinary experiences in one of their cafes and bars.
The 1889 Victorian heritage of the Gladstone Hotel building has remained intact after a major restoration in 2005, including a 1907 hand-crank elevator. It’s also the only B-Corp certified hotel in Canada for eco-friendly practices.
Choosing a room at the Gladstone can be tricky as each one is individually designed by different Canadian artists. Just keep in mind that some of the rooms can be on the very small end or about 130 sq feet in size.
Standard amenities in each one of the rooms include free WiFi, natural Canadian bath products, and a flat-screen TV with premium cable. A baby crib, ice, toiletries and ironing facilities can be requested from the front desk as well.
Breakfast is not included in the rates, but they do have a coffee and tea service on the 3rd- and 4th-floor lounges between 6am and 9am. However, on the premises, you’ll also find the Café, which is also open for breakfast and lunch, and the Melody Bar which hosts regular live events and karaoke nights Friday—Saturday.
Fitness-wise, the Gladstone Hotel offers morning yoga classes on Wednesdays, free access to a nearby gym on 99 Sudbury, and has bicycles for rent. But unlike major chain hotels, this family-owned hotel also has art programming that focuses on local and international emerging talent in the contemporary space.
Last but not least, this artsy hotel is also well-connected with local transit and can take you to the Entertainment District in about 20 minutes.
